December 8, 2011 Distraction and Narcissism
I feel like a social network junkie.
I hop on the bandwagon with every network from Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr, Path, etc. This has become increasingly distracting in my life. I feel like I always have to check and see what’s going on. This has taken time away from reading and studying that I should be doing. It’s also taken away from real life relationship. I want to become more personal with my friends. I want to learn to call and talk, instead of texting and wall posting.
Also, why do I feel like what I have to say or post is so interesting and important? It’s just narcissism that has crept in through all these technological channels.
I’m cutting back.
I will keep Facebook and Twitter to interact with people in simple ways and to keep them informed of ministry happenings. I will also keep this blog to actually blog about what I’m thinking on or studying, and not post random meaningless dribble.
Here’s to a simpler, less distracted and self-centered life.

I went through the same exact realization. I have fallen off the grid for the most part these last few months and its been nice. I’m going to get back to my blog at the beginning of the year and will try and do somewhat regular posting as Facebook and Twitter are great Ministry tools, but so glad I realized my problem and took action before it got out of hand. Good luck with your cut back. Its harder than I thought it would be at first.
